6.85

問曰：若爾，佛何故說四無量功德，慈心好修善修，福德極遍淨天；悲心好修善修，福德極虛空處；喜心好修善修，福德極識處；捨心好修善修，福德極無所有處？云何言慈果報應生梵天上？

Question: If so, why did the Buddha state regarding the merits of the four immeasurables: if the mind of benevolence is properly cultivated and well cultivated, its merit culminates in the Śubhakṛtsna heaven; if the mind of compassion is properly cultivated and well cultivated, its merit culminates in the station of [boundless] space; if the mind of sympathetic joy is properly cultivated and well cultivated, its merit culminates in the station of [boundless] consciousness; and if the mind of equanimity is properly cultivated and well cultivated, its merit culminates in the station of nothingness? Why do you say that the fruition of benevolence should be rebirth in the Brahmā heaven?
