7.62

第五、除諸身行者，對初禪覺觀支。就中二：一、明身行；二、明除身。身行者，欲界身中發得初禪，色界四大造色，觸欲界身，欲界身根生身識，覺此色觸，二界色相依共住，故名身。身行者，即觀支。此觀支從身分生，知身中之法有所造作，故名身行。

Fifth, eliminating bodily formations: this corresponds to the factors of vitarka and vicāra of the first dhyāna. Within this there are two: first, clarifying bodily formations; second, clarifying the elimination of the body. 'Bodily formations': when the first dhyāna arises within the desire-realm body, the form derived from the four great elements of the form realm contacts the desire-realm body, the desire-realm bodily faculty produces body-consciousness, and one perceives this tangible form. The forms of the two realms depend on each other and co-dwell; therefore it is called 'body.' 'Bodily formations' refers to the factor of vicāra. This factor of vicāra arises from the bodily elements, knowing that the dharmas within the body engage in activity; therefore it is called 'bodily formations.'
