Now it is clarified that this absorption also has two kinds: first, the fundamental five factors, as explained previously. Second, the five factors of the purified dhyāna: perceiving that the thirty-six bodily components are provisional and unreal is called vitarka; distinguishing the great superiority and inferiority between this dhyāna, the desire realm, and fundamental virtues is called vicāra. Having attained Dharma joy, the mind is greatly delighted, which is called prīti; experiencing tranquil bliss in undefiled feeling is called sukha. Right absorption maintaining the mind so that it does not waver is called ekāgratā. Because the factors within this eliminate [defilements], bringing about supreme and sublime joy and bliss while the mind is free of defiled attachment, it is therefore called 'purified dhyāna.'
