Now, the distinction corresponding to the four dharmas has been briefly explained as above. When the great sages skillfully benefit beings in accordance with conditions, their words have no fixed standards for interpretation (and so forth). Therefore, the names established in the various sūtras and treatises appear and disappear, and their intention is difficult to discern; one must not erroneously cling to them. However, sūtras and treatises mostly explain pāramitā in terms of dhyāna because the fundamental four dhyānas are the basis of all practices. All merits of internal practice arise because of the four dhyānas and abide in reliance on the four dhyānas; for this reason, dhyāna alone receives the name of pāramitā.
