The practitioner should again deeply refine the skeleton from head to foot, and then withdraw the mind, carefully contemplating the forehead, keeping the mind abiding on the object. Again they see light of eight colors rotating and emerging. Stilling the mind in sequence like this, they contemplate the hairline, crown, both ear canals, brow bones, eye sockets, nose, mouth, teeth, jawbone, and neck bones. From top to bottom, all the three hundred and sixty bones and joints are seen emitting light of eight colors rotating and emerging. As the practitioner's concentration becomes progressively subtler, from head to foot and from foot to head, contemplating this skeleton, they see the entire body radiating light, illuminating everything everywhere, all utterly luminous and pure. If it is a great bodhisattva, they will see images of the Buddhas within the light; if the practitioner's virtuous roots are weak and inferior, only upon reaching the fourth dhyāna will they be able to see the images of the Buddhas.
