Second, as for explaining the methods of the functional application of contemplative dhyāna: after the Buddha's disciples have attained these three rounds of contemplative practice, if they wish to manifest rare marvels in order to transform sentient beings and purify their minds, they should extensively cultivate all the powers of the Path of supernormal knowledges—namely: the six supernormal knowledges, the fourteen transformations, the four analytical knowledges, the araṇa-samādhi, the knowledge of vows, the summit dhyāna, the mastery absorption, the smelted dhyāna, the eighteen transformations, and other such great merits; all of these should be studied while abiding in these liberations, stations of mastery, and totality spheres. Having learned them, they cause many sentient beings to see them and rejoice, and to faithfully submit and attain deliverance; therefore, they cultivate supernormal transformations.
