5. Obtaining the precepts through the eight reverential rules: this refers to the Buddha's maternal aunt. The Buddha was not inclined to ordain women into the homeless life, but his maternal aunt pleaded earnestly, so the Buddha had the eight reverential rules conferred upon her from afar, whereupon she immediately generated the full precepts.
