Now putting the gate of cessation first is precisely the correct intention of the second teacher in bestowing the Dharma. If it were otherwise, wholesome and unwholesome roots and conditions would be difficult to distinguish, and rashly conferring other methods would inevitably incur the error of mistaking capacities. Within the gate of cessation, there are naturally four points: first, differentiating the differences among the gates of cessation; second, the overarching intent of establishing cessation; third, explaining the methods of cultivating cessation; fourth, distinguishing the marks of realizing cessation.
