Third, briefly explaining the signs of afflictions in the five sense faculties: as for afflictions of the body faculty, there is sudden bodily pain, aching in all the joints, sores, itching, and so forth. As for afflictions of the tongue faculty, there are sores, stiffness, tension, loss of taste in food and drink, and so forth. As for afflictions of the nose faculty, there are nasal congestion, heaviness, discharge of thick mucus, and so forth. As for afflictions of the ear faculty, there are fullness, pain, deafness, or at times humming and buzzing noises, and so forth. As for afflictions of the eye faculty, there is unsteady vision, blurred sight, cataracts, darkness, pain, and so forth. The causes and conditions of illnesses of the four great elements, five viscera, and five sense faculties like these are not singular, and their afflictions are manifold, beyond full description.
