Answer: The wisdom conditioned by principle is sharp, so it can arise. Supernormal powers, immeasurables, and the like are phenomenal practices and necessarily rely on deep absorption; yet it is not that the desire realm and anāgamya are completely unable to cultivate the immeasurable minds, but once they arise, they belong to the first dhyāna, and therefore they are not spoken of. Just as in the five factors of the first dhyāna, the two factors of vitarka and vicāra discern the desire realm, making it easy to give rise to compassion; the factor of prīti makes it easy to give rise to sympathetic joy; the factor of sukha makes it easy to give rise to loving-kindness; and the factor of ekāgratā makes it easy to give rise to equanimity; therefore, it is spoken of as a station of cultivation and realization.
