The five viscera within the body overlap leaf upon leaf like a lotus flower, their apertures empty and porous, communicating between inside and outside, each also having ninety-nine layers. Between the various components there are also eighty families of worms dwelling within, employing one another. When the practitioner's mind is quiet and subtle, they also hear the sounds and speech of these worms within absorption, or sometimes on this basis they trigger the samādhi of understanding the speech of sentient beings. Among the blood vessels in the body, the heart vessel is the master; from the heart vessel there are further produced vessels of the four great elements, ten vessels for each great element, and within each of the ten vessels there are further nine vessels, combining to make four hundred vessels. From head to foot, within the four hundred and four vessels, the circulation of wind-breath and blood flows together. Within the blood of these vessels there are also subtle worms dwelling dependent on the vessels. When the practitioner knows in this way, they know that the interior and exterior of the body are unreal, like a plantain tree. Furthermore, they contemplate the mental factors: whenever conditioning an object, there are distinct differences among the four minds of feeling, perception, volitional formations, and consciousness.
