The practitioner deeply contemplates that the evil occurrences of the desire realm are like this, without any place of pleasure; even when the retribution of the upper two realms breaks down, their anxiety and suffering are worse than those of the lower realms, just like falling from an extremely high place, shattered and ruined. The sūtra states: 'There is no peace in the three realms; they are just like a burning house, filled with manifold sufferings, extremely terrifying.' If one constantly contemplates these marks, one will deeply give rise to revulsion and detachment, and thoughts of attachment will not arise. This is called the notion of the impermissibility of delight in the world.
