Because there is the illusion-like breath devoid of inherent nature, there are mundane and supramundane dharmas devoid of inherent nature. Why is this? Through ignorance and inverted views, not knowing that the nature of the breath is empty, one falsely reckons that the breath exists, thereby generating attachment to persons and dharmas, craving, views, and various activities; therefore it is called mundane. Because the breath exists, there are the mundane fruits of suffering and pleasure such as the aggregates, sense realms, and sense bases. One should know that although the breath is empty, it can also bring about all mundane wholesome and unwholesome causes and effects, and all matters of saṃsāra in the twenty-five states of existence.
