Question: That sentient beings in birth-and-death possess the ten suchnesses of the Buddha-dharma-realm has clear evidence in the sūtras and treatises, and the principle should indeed be believable. But the Buddha is a person who has transcended birth-and-death; how could he also possess the ten suchnesses of the dharma-realms of the six destinies? Answer: This meaning is subtle and hidden, and truly difficult to place faith in. The sūtra says: "Complete with the five eyes, one achieves bodhi." Furthermore, the Buddha asked Subhūti: "Does the Buddha possess the physical eye or not?" up to asking whether he possesses the Buddha eye or not, and [Subhūti] answered: "He does." Thus, since he possesses the physical eye of an ordinary being, how could he lack the six sense faculties of an ordinary being? These being so, the physical eye, the divine eye, and the six sense faculties are themselves the dharma-realms of the six destinies; the wisdom eye is the dharma-realm of the two vehicles; the dharma eye is the bodhisattva dharma-realm; and the Buddha eye is the Buddha-realm. Thus, since the Buddha is endowed with the five eyes, it is clear that he possesses the ten dharma-realms and the hundred suchnesses.
