五、識陰。了別所緣之境名為識。識有六種，即是六識。若諸論師多云識在二心之前，諸大乘經中明識最居後。今依經為次料簡。

Fifth, the consciousness skandha. Discriminating the cognized object is called consciousness. Consciousness is of six kinds, which are the six consciousnesses. While many treatise masters say that consciousness precedes the other two mental states, the various Mahāyāna sūtras explain consciousness as coming at the very end. We now follow the sūtras to arrange the sequence.
