Fourth, the formations skandha. The volition of mental activity that can tend toward a fruition is called formations. Formations are of six kinds; in the Dapin jing they are explained as the six volitions, and volition is formations. That is to say, subsequent to the six perceptions, unwholesome karma, wholesome karma, and imperturbable karma respectively arise.
