First, the samādhi with vitarka and vicāra. If, with a mind corresponding to emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, one enters all attainments and contemplates the first dhyāna and its preparatory stage, then all dhyānas associated with vitarka and vicāra become completely upright; hence it is called the samādhi with vitarka and vicāra.
