One hundred and eighth, the samādhi of non-defilement free from attachment to open space. Regarding the samādhi of non-defilement free from attachment to open space: when a bodhisattva practices the prajñāpāramitā, they contemplate all dharmas as ultimately empty, neither arising nor ceasing, like open space, with nothing that can serve as an analogy. Bodhisattvas of dull faculties attach to this open space; attaining this samādhi, they are freed from attachment to all dharmas such as open space, and are also untainted by and unattached to this samādhi. It is like someone submerged in mud whom another pulls out, only to shackle his feet as a slave: there are samādhis that free one from attachment to open space, yet one attaches to them in turn. This samādhi is also like this: now, this samādhi can free one from attachment to open space, and also frees itself from attachment; therefore, it is called the samādhi of non-defilement free from attachment to open space. As for such immeasurable, inconceivable samādhis of the Buddhas and bodhisattvas, their names should be fully listed here and their characteristics briefly explained; these matters are extensive and appear widely in other dharma gates.
