First is embrace through giving. With a mind free of parsimony, the bodhisattva practices two kinds of giving, which can embrace sentient beings: first is the giving of wealth, and second is the giving of Dharma. If there are sentient beings who delight in wealth, one embraces them with the giving of wealth; if there are sentient beings who delight in Dharma, one embraces them with the giving of Dharma. Because these two givings can benefit all, and sentient beings have received grace and benefit, they thereby give rise to affection and follow to receive the path, coming to abide in the true principle; hence it is named embrace through dāna-giving. The aspects of these two givings have been briefly distinguished earlier in the dāna-pāramitā.
