First, to accomplish wondrous understanding. If one wishes to know that these ten are all wondrous, one must understand the overarching framework of opening and revealing: that the three thousand realms are all emptiness, provisionality, and the middle. This is the great essence of the present sūtra, the absolute subtlety of what can open. Because the object is this, phenomena and principle are both fused; because wisdom is generated from this, it is without condition; because practice arises from this, it is unconstructed; because stages progress through this, they mutually subsume; because the three dharmas consummate this, the fruits are complete; because sentient beings possess this, a single thought-moment can induce resonance; because the Buddha attains this, he responds without premeditation; because spiritual powers employ this, transformations are inexhaustible; because preaching the Dharma is based on this, deployment and opening are unfettered; because the retinue is completely this, natural kinship connects them; because benefit accords with this, not a single one fails to become a Buddha. The present ten gates directly point to this. If one is able to understand this, it is called generating wondrous understanding.
