Hence we know that when those of medium or inferior capacity cultivate contemplation, all ten dharmas are necessary. Those of superior capacity realise the object as encompassing them all, or [rely upon] one, two, or three indeterminately, and internal or external acts and experiences are invariably so. The great carriage is immeasurable; could its description have been set forth in vain? Matching the Dharma to the metaphor originated within our own tradition; as that to which the origin and traces return, the perfect principle is not two. Without differentiating yet differentiated, it increases in clarity rank by rank; this is extensively [treated] in other texts and cannot be fully presented here. Judging the doctrines according to the texts, whether the four [teachings] or the eight [teachings], the Way is present before one's very eyes.
