然位次周足莫過《纓絡經》，故今依彼略明菩薩歷位斷證之相。以五十二位束為七科，謂信、住、行、向、地、等、妙。又合七為二：初凡、二聖。就凡又二：信為外凡；住、行、向為內凡，亦名為賢。約聖亦二：十地、等覺為因；妙覺為果。大分如此，自下細釋。

However, for completeness of ranks, nothing surpasses the Yingluo jing; therefore, we now rely upon it to briefly explain the marks of a bodhisattva's severing and realization through successive ranks. The fifty-two ranks are subsumed under seven categories: namely faith, abode, practice, dedication, ground, virtual [enlightenment], and sublime [enlightenment]. Furthermore, the seven are combined into two: first, ordinary beings; second, sages. Regarding ordinary beings, there are again two: faith is external ordinary beings; abode, practice, and dedication are internal ordinary beings, also called worthies. Regarding sages, there are also two: the ten grounds and virtual enlightenment are the cause; sublime enlightenment is the fruit. The broad divisions are as such; below they are explained in detail.
