今且依《法華》、《纓絡》略明位次，有八：一五品弟子位（外凡，出《法華經》）、二十信位（內凡）、三十住位（聖初）、四十行、五十迴向、六十地、七等覺（是因位末）、八妙覺（是果位）。

Now, provisionally relying on the Lotus Sūtra and the Yingluo [jing], the ranks are briefly explained; there are eight: 1. the rank of disciples of the five grades (external ordinary beings, appearing in the Lotus Sūtra), 2. the rank of the ten faiths (internal ordinary beings), 3. the rank of the ten abodes (the beginning of sagehood), 4. the ten practices, 5. the ten dedications, 6. the ten grounds, 7. virtual enlightenment (this is the culmination of the causal ranks), and 8. sublime enlightenment (this is the fruit rank).
