Your disciple Zongchi bows his head. You have graciously condescended to instruct me concerning Donglin Monastery and Fengding Monastery on Mount Lu in Xunyang, Jiangzhou, desiring your disciple to serve as dānapati for both. Their mountain ridges wind in beauty, bordering the river and lake below; the layered peaks of the Incense Burner Peak obscure the clouds and sun above. It is a place where immortals come to dwell, and where recluses linger without returning. How much more so when Dharma Master Huiyuan constructed those splendid abodes; Xie Keling and Liang Yuandi excavated ponds and raised multi-storied pavilions; Master Jing rested his mind and obtained spiritual resonance at the peak; and the Wise One (Zhizhe) has rested and traveled there, treading in the footsteps of the former worthies! The master being venerable and the Dharma exalted, I truly rejoice with deep sincerity; I only regret that my virtue is meager and of no benefit to the future, but I hope to rely upon this spiritual cultivation to realize the Eternal Bliss. You also stated that the two monasteries are rather close to the post road, and travelers coming and going create quite a disturbance, requesting that an order be given to that prefecture so that official and private missions are not permitted to lodge there. I have immediately handed this over to the responsible office to be promulgated in accordance with your request. Respectfully bowing my head. First day of the third month.
