弟子總持和南。奉旨今日齋竟，即事登舟睽阻方遙，彌以傾欷垂示法相，雖文旨淵賾源本難尋，而教門方便開悟易益，恭承善誘永以受持，庶藉津梁得無退轉。自服膺至道每沾弘護，將事遵途復降良藥，沐浴慈被伏用悽荷。謹和南。

Your disciple Zongchi bows his head. I received your instruction that today, after the noon meal (upavasatha) was concluded, you immediately boarded the boat; our separation will now be far, which makes me sigh with longing all the more. You condescended to show me the Dharma characteristics; although the textual meaning is profound and abstruse, its source and origin difficult to fathom, the skillful means of the teaching gates easily awaken and bring benefit. I respectfully receive your kind guidance and will uphold it forever, hoping to rely on this ford and bridge to attain non-retrogression. Ever since I set my heart upon the Supreme Way, I have constantly received your vast protection; as you were about to set out on your journey, you again bestowed excellent medicine. Bathed in your compassionate shelter, I am filled with poignant gratitude. Respectfully bowing my head.
