On the thirteenth day of the ninth month in the thirteenth year of Kaihuang. Tanxian of Xingguo Monastery in the capital bows in homage. At the feet of the Dhyāna Master of Mount Tiantai: I respectfully contemplate that your renown is high and your realization of the Way is advanced, recalling the arrival and comportment of the Upādhyāya [Fotudeng]; your virtue is far-reaching and your wisdom is deep, bringing to mind the reappearance of [Daoan], whose renown filled the heavens. When I speak and reflect upon paying homage, I express my wholehearted devotion at your feet. Gazing toward the Eastern Mountain, I yearn for your luminous presence as if parched with thirst. As the cold season deepens, I pray your daily life is peaceful and good. Sentient beings are difficult to tame, and your vast conversion of them must weary your thoughts. I respectfully learn that you have travelled afar to the garrison of Jing, bringing great benefit to living beings, and that resting your thoughts by the Qingxi stream fully pleases your heart. I hope your virtuous light reaches afar to unfold our ardent sincerity, and that your transformative guidance will spread all around, so that all may receive supreme benefit. I pray you take precious care of your Way and virtue, so that we may continually forge ties of reverent reception. Reverently I pay homage. I respectfully present some ghee, hoping you will accept this slight token of my thoughts.
