The Yili, however, states that the pure mind traverses dharmas, naturally dissolving and merging. Where were expedients applied? From this it is proven that this is traversing universally with a mind purified through completed contemplation. Furthermore, the text itself sets forth the reason for cultivating inner contemplation, saying: 'One should know that everything is discriminated by the mind; how could dharmas ever speak of themselves as identical or different?' Since fault is located in the mind, one cultivates contemplation only in the inner mind. Since external form and other dharmas fundamentally have no discrimination of identity and difference, one need not apply effort to cultivate the contemplation method [on them].
