若於師門先聞《止觀》，久曾研習，今覩玄疏事法觀門，則用本習觀法度入事法觀門而修，或因茲得悟，乃名事法觀門悟入，非是約行觀中得悟也。

If one had previously heard the Zhiguan from a master and studied it for a long time, and now sees the phenomenal contemplation gate in the profound commentaries, one applies the contemplation methods originally practiced to cross over into and cultivate the phenomenal contemplation gate; if one attains awakening because of this, it is called awakening and entering through the phenomenal contemplation gate, not attaining awakening within contemplation according to the stages of praxis.
