應知但值良師，實不假自尋《止觀》、實不待《止觀》專明境觀，但隨聞事法觀心一句，即可依之修觀也。若不遇良師，自尋《止觀》亦可修習，然亦不妨有宿種強者，一披其文朗然深證，何啻能修耶？

One must know that as long as one encounters an excellent teacher, it truly does not require searching the Zhiguan by oneself, nor does it wait for the Zhiguan specifically to clarify the object and contemplation; whenever one hears a single phrase on contemplating the mind in phenomenal teachings, one can immediately rely on it to cultivate contemplation. If one does not meet an excellent teacher, one may also cultivate by searching through the Zhiguan by oneself; yet it cannot be ruled out that there may be those whose past seeds are strong who, upon opening the text once, have a clear and profound realization—how could they merely be able to cultivate?
