This society brings together a total of ten thousand monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen to recite the name of Amitābha Buddha throughout their whole lives, generate the mind of awakening, and seek birth in the Pure Land. Every year on the fifteenth day of the second month, a bodhimaṇḍa is inaugurated at the cloister to make offerings to the Three Jewels and provide a vegetarian feast for the field of the Saṅgha, with the merit dedicated to praying for the Emperor's longevity and blessing the military and populace. As for the procedure for founding the society: two hundred and ten society leaders are invited and exhorted, each recruiting forty-eight persons; each person requests one calendar-register of repentance and aspiration for reciting the Buddha's name, recites the Buddha's name one thousand times daily, repents grave transgressions that obstruct the Path, makes the vows of awakening, and seeks the Pure Land for the sake of delivering sentient beings. They are requested to mark the number of Buddha recitations upon the register; when the day of holding the assembly arrives, they bring the register in advance along with forty-eight coins of pure wealth, come to the cloister to compile records and submit the pledge document, and on that day it is proclaimed. If any disciple who has entered the society should pass away, the exhorting leader is requested to promptly bring their name and calendar-register to the cloister to report it; nine hundred and ninety-nine members of the society shall then be notified, and each shall recite the Buddha's name one thousand times to repent offenses on their behalf and assist their vows and practice, causing them to be born in the Pure Land. Furthermore, when the day of holding the assembly arrives, the members of the society shall be directed to recite the Buddha's name to dedicate merit for their rebirth. The exhorting leader is still requested to quickly recruit someone to fill the vacancy, in the hope of continuously maintaining ten thousand persons jointly cultivating pure karma.
