十六問：若云毒義雖成消義全闕者，今家應不合云：原乎因果根本，即是性德緣了。此之性德本自有之，非適今也。性德了因非理消義耶？性德緣因非伏義耶？

Question 16: If you say that although the sense of poison is established, the sense of eradication is completely lacking, then our school should not say: 'Traced to their fundamental origin, cause and effect are none other than the conditioning and understanding [causes] of inherent virtue. This inherent virtue is fundamentally possessed originally; it does not just begin now.' Is not the understanding cause of inherent virtue the sense of theoretical eradication? Is not the conditioning cause of inherent virtue the sense of subduing?
