4.20

一問：法華三周授記作佛（云云）。近代疑者云：為是初住佛？為是妙覺佛？若是妙覺者，大師常云：初住八相佛也。若是初住者，圓頓速疾，經一二生尚可究竟，況經無數劫耶？

Question 1: In the Saddharmapuṇḍarīka Sūtra, predictions of becoming a buddha are bestowed across the three cycles [of preaching], and so on. Recent doubters say: Is this the buddha of the first abodal stage (prathamacittotpādika)? Or is it the buddha of wondrous awakening (samyaksaṃbodhi)? If it is wondrous awakening, the Great Master constantly said that it is the buddha of the eight aspects at the first abodal stage. If it is the first abodal stage, the perfect and sudden path is swift, so that [buddhahood] can even be consummated across one or two lifetimes; how much more so across countless kalpas?
