一問：定性聲聞成佛不成佛疑。《解深密經》云：成就第一趣聲聞，一切諸佛盡力教化，不能令其坐道場得無上菩提，我說名為寂滅聲聞。《唯識論》云：定性聲聞入無餘涅槃者，身智俱滅，猶如虛空，非眾生數，更不發心。且經論若爾，而天台宗若何解釋《深密》、《唯識》之文，顯定性聲聞成佛之道理耶？

Question 1: Doubt concerning whether śrāvakas of definite nature attain Buddhahood or not. The *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra* states: "For śrāvakas who have attained the foremost destination, even if all Buddhas strive with all their might to teach and transform them, they cannot make them sit in the bodhimaṇḍa and attain unexcelled bodhi; I declare them to be 'śrāvakas of quiescent extinction'." The *Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi Śāstra* states: "When śrāvakas of definite nature enter nirvāṇa without remainder, their body and wisdom are both extinguished, just like empty space; they are no longer counted among sentient beings, and will never again give rise to the mind [of bodhi]." Since the sūtras and treatises are like this, how does the Tiantai school interpret the passages of the *Saṃdhinirmocana* and *Vijñapti[mātratā]* to demonstrate the principle that śrāvakas of definite nature attain Buddhahood?
