5.68

昨因聞明州延慶寺禮座主，結僧入懺，期以三載，並趨火化。況此僧傳持大教，徒眾攸歸，為世導師，開人眼目，得其久住，利益甚多。遂曾發書伸勸，他有答簡，備述確乎之志也。今已召得他請益弟子（智環）來，此即總印大師澄公之上足也。現欲專裁尺牘，同其春水，請環師再伸勸請。切知吾師與之同稟、並化東南，須仗法友之誠言，苦留大士而住世。相次別期奉簡，先此導懷。

Yesterday, upon hearing that Master Li of Yanqing Monastery in Mingzhou had assembled monks to enter repentance, setting a term of three years after which they would together proceed to cremation. Moreover, since this monk transmits and upholds the Great Teaching, disciples flock to him, and he is a guide for the world who opens people's eyes, having him remain long will bring immense benefit. Therefore, I previously sent a letter to urge him, and he sent a reply fully setting forth his firm resolution. Now I have invited his inquiring disciple Zhihuan to come, who is the chief disciple of the Great Master of General Seals, Venerable Cheng. I now wish to specifically write a letter, and along with the spring waters, ask Master Huan to once more extend the request. I know deeply that my Master [Zunshi] and he share the same transmission and together transform the southeast; we must rely on the sincere words of a Dharma friend to earnestly persuade the Mahāsattva to remain in the world. In due course I will send another letter; this is first to convey my thoughts.
