浮石行者至，得汝書，知住持無事，兼有僧徒，講說相續；官員歸嚮，供施周豐。此雖外事，亦是急緣。又知專以淨土繫心，念佛不輟。吾聞之甚喜，如飢得食。望汝加行自修，弘教利物，無以他競，卑己尊人為上。若其爾者，三衢台教立見中興也。其住持事，杭僧來說。汝既說行並持，必樹立非晚也。（仁岳）有諫書與吾，汝曾見否？嗟小子狂簡，不知所以裁之。始欲不答，又慮後學遭伊惑亂，病中寫三二十紙，解其謗辭，令伊知教觀蹊徑也。鈔寫未了，後信附去。夏暑惡熱，宜好將息。勤心為法，兼修佛事為要。不具。

The practitioner from Fushi arrived and I received your letter. I learned that your abbacy is peaceful and free of incidents, that you also have a following of monks, and that your lectures continue without interruption; officials turn their hearts to you, and offerings and donations are abundant. Although these are external matters, they are also pressing conditions. I also learned that you focus exclusively on tying your mind to the Pure Land and recite the Buddha's name without ceasing. Hearing this, I rejoiced greatly, like one who is starving finding food. I hope you will intensify your practice for self-cultivation, propagate the teaching to benefit sentient beings, never compete with others, and take humbling yourself and honoring others as foremost. If you act thus, the Tiantai teaching in Sanqu will immediately see a revival. As for your abbacy, a monk from Hangzhou came and told me. Since you maintain both exposition and practice, you will certainly establish yourself before long. Renyue has sent me an admonitory letter; have you seen it? Alas, this fellow is mad and rash, not knowing how to restrain himself! At first I intended not to reply, but fearing that later students might be confounded and thrown into disorder by him, I wrote twenty or thirty sheets during my illness to resolve his slanderous words and let him know the pathways of doctrinal teaching and contemplation. The copying is not yet completed; it will be enclosed in a later letter. The summer heat is oppressive; you should rest and take good care of yourself. Be diligent at heart for the sake of the Dharma, and practicing Buddhist services alongside it is essential. Incomplete.
