師諱（本如），昔在延慶法智輪下。一日上方丈，請益經王之旨。法智曰：爾為我作三年監院，我却向汝道。神照依言，果三年辦事。持上諮問，忽被法智大喝一聲，師豁然開悟，有頌曰：處處逢歸路，時時復故鄉，本來成現事，何必待思量。師既得道，即法嗣四明，自後開法台城東掖山，為白蓮之鼻祖矣。

The master's taboo name was Benru. In former times, he studied under Fazhi at Yanqing. One day he went up to the abbot's quarters to request further instruction on the purport of the King of Sūtras. Fazhi said, 'Serve as my monastery supervisor for three years, and then I will tell you.' Shenzhao followed his words and indeed managed affairs for three years. When he went up to inquire, Fazhi suddenly gave a great shout; the master was lucidly awakened, and made a verse saying: 'Everywhere I encounter the road home; / at all times I return to my old native place. / Originally an already manifest affair, / why must one wait upon thinking and measuring?' Having attained the Way, the master became the Dharma heir of Siming. Thereafter he opened the Dharma at Mount Dongye in Taicheng, becoming the founding ancestor of the White Lotus.
