The ancestral shrine of the late Prime Minister of the Imperial Dynasty, Duke Zeng Xuanjing (Gongliang), Prince of Lu, is located at Yanqing Monastery, three and a half li south of the county seat. According to records, during the Tiansheng era, the Duke of Chu (Zeng Hui) governed Mingzhou. While the Prime Minister was cultivating virtue in attendance upon his father, he one day visited Yanqing. Master Fazhi [Zhili], the abbot, dreamt that night that the saṅghārāma deity told him: 'Tomorrow the Prime Minister will come; you may respectfully welcome him.' [Zhili] marveled at the matter and instructed the gatekeeper to announce the arrival. Soon Duke Lu arrived, and Zhili related the dream to him. Duke Lu said: 'How could such a thing be?' Yet he silently kept it in his heart. When he was appointed Grand Chancellor, he regarded [Zhili's] dream as true. Thereupon he petitioned the court, acquired land, expanded buildings, and widely established Dharma assemblies; the name of Yanqing began to spread throughout the realm. The monks of the monastery painted his portrait and enshrined it; the steles and inscriptions all survive intact.
