6.70

（居實）聞：如來或現宰官身說法，佛法付囑國王大臣。此二語本即一事，苟非其人，道不虛行。使國王大臣夙根非佛，誰肯出力主張。大丞相宣靖魯公，因法智師夜夢有驗，捨田入寺，植無窮之利。此大事因緣，（居實）竊以謂唯佛知佛、以心印心，大丞相與法智，即非兩人故。是夢是覺，如鏡照形，初非妄想。此田此供，如人贍家，不自為功。今判部尚書，迺大丞相之孫，膺國重任為計相。凡所以裕民足用，調度得宜，一本之慈祥仁厚，有毫髮不便乎人，必極力經濟。在佛法為方便利他三昧，迺得大丞相心傳家法。不日大用，識者必謂，魯公復生而法智具在。今延慶講主親公，宜自承當。庶幾大臣與導師相表裏，繇此燈燈相繼云。右承議郎新差權發遣興化軍主管學事薛（居實）敬題。

I, Jushi, have heard: the Tathāgata sometimes manifests in the body of a minister to preach the Dharma; the Buddha-Dharma was entrusted to kings and great ministers. These two statements are originally one and the same matter. If it is not the right person, the Way does not act in vain. Had the past roots of kings and great ministers not been connected to the Buddha, who would be willing to expend effort to champion it? Grand Councillor Duke Xuanjing of Lu, because Master Fazhi's nighttime dream proved verified, donated land to the monastery, planting unending benefits. Regarding this great cause and condition, I, Jushi, venture to consider that only a Buddha knows a Buddha, sealing mind with mind; the Grand Councillor and Fazhi were precisely not two different people. This dream and this waking state were like a mirror reflecting a form, fundamentally not a deluded thought. This land and these offerings were like someone providing for their family, not claiming merit for oneself. The present Minister Director of the Department is the grandson of the Grand Councillor; bearing the heavy responsibilities of the state, he serves as chief minister of finances. In all that enriches the people and provides sufficiency, with appropriate administration, all stems from his loving-kindness and deep benevolence; if there is the slightest inconvenience to the people, he will surely exert his utmost effort to manage and relieve it. In the Buddha-Dharma, this is the samādhi of skillful means for benefiting others; thus he has attained the Grand Councillor's mind-to-mind transmission of family tradition. If soon put to great use, those who know will surely say: Duke Lu has returned to life and Fazhi is fully present. Today, Lecture Master Qin of Yanqing should personally undertake this responsibility. May the great ministers and the guiding teachers correspond as outer and inner, and thereby may lamp transmit to lamp in succession.
