7.125

教敷徒儀，徒為教主，徒徹愈明，
徒誕自侮。明則契聖，感以從真，
侮則徒咎，咎非教淪。偉哉吾師，
達明契聖，坐台指人，學及古性。
生異其迹，死奇其屍，南嘩是聞，
俾徒勤思。師徒伊誰，克完厥守，
佩于永年，勿誕以咎。

The teaching is expounded by the disciple's deportment; / The disciple serves as the master of the teaching. / If the disciple penetrates it, it becomes ever clearer; / If the disciple is boastful, he brings humiliation on himself. / Clarity accords with the sages, / Moving them to align with truth; / Humiliation brings blame upon the disciple, / Yet the blame does not submerge the teaching. / Magnificent was our master, / Eminent, clear, according with sages! / Sitting on Tiantai pointing men the way, / His learning reached the ancient nature. / In life, his traces were wondrous; / In death, his corpse was extraordinary. / His renown resounds loudly in the south, / Leading his disciples to reflect diligently. / Who among the master's disciples / Can fully maintain what they protect, / Wearing it for eternal years, / Without boastfulness bringing blame?
