I respectfully submit: The source of the Dharma is ancient and far-reaching, pouring through the ocean of realms to circulate everywhere; the sun of wisdom is at its meridian, reflecting upon the precious clouds to adorn all below. As all capacities shine forth, this Way is splendid and dignified; formally approaching the anniversary of his manifestation of extinction, how could we dare neglect the respect owed to him as if he were alive? We reverently reflect on the Great Dharma Master, the Venerable Baoyun, who revived doctrinal teaching and contemplation. Manifesting his body from the lands to the east and renowned in his generation within our school, he viewed all people as fellow countrymen. Broad and without bounds, he produced two eminent disciples, both firmly planted on actual ground, moving their blades with room to spare. He opened the orthodox lineage from Luoxi and scattered the true wind like an elephant-tail fan. We look up to his height with ever-deepening awe, gazing toward it in vast wonder. In crossing scriptures at Yufan, we regret not having been among the audience of that time; bowing down beneath the nun-ordaining platform, we are ashamed to be casually named his descendants today. We hope that relying on the perfuming of clear faith, we may receive a glimpse of his compassionate gaze. We pray that the flame of wisdom of non-arising eternally link with the light from above, and that the wondrous flowers of the permanently abiding increasingly brighten the talents of later generations. May all we inferior scholars of this degenerate age jointly proceed toward the perfect vehicle. Respectfully submitted. (In former times, before Mount Mao was converted into a Chan monastery, it grandly magnified the Tiantai doctrinal teaching and contemplation. Great Master Fayan of Qingliang also received instruction there. At that time, Baoyun Master Tong once took part in the lectures, and Siming and Ciyun were both among the audience. This account appears on an ancient tablet at Mount Mao. What was called Yufan Peak is the present Mount King Aśoka.)
