晁說之作師行業記曰：明智中立師，明之鄞人也。元祐間住延慶，一日辭去，雖大守亦不得而留也。且曰：待余六十歲再來。自是居隱學山，眾方從之。會缺僧職，復不能捨。太守躬請出住寶雲，實其祖師通公道場。時寶雲頹圮無一全椽，師復新之。咸曰：師前曰隆其三世祖之居，今又興其四世祖之室，孰謂像法末哉？先是伽藍神腹中得願文一帋，曰：後更百年有肉身菩薩重興此地。師復退去，築菴白雲山凡四年，亦無一日不講。大守又命住延慶，不得辭，時年六十歲，果符前言矣（草菴教苑餘事載，明智住寶雲經于八年）。

Chao Shuozhi composed the master's record of conduct, which states: 'Master Mingzhi Zhongli was a native of Yin in Ming. During the Yuanyou era, he resided at Yanqing. One day he took his leave and departed; even the prefect could not detain him. Moreover, he said, "Wait until I am sixty years old, and I will come again." From then on he lived in seclusion at Mount Yinxue, and the assembly flocked to him. When a monastic administrative office fell vacant, he could not decline it. The prefect personally invited him to go forth and reside at Baoyun, which was indeed the bodhimaṇḍa of his ancestral master, Master Tong. At that time, Baoyun was dilapidated, without a single intact rafter; the master completely renewed it. Everyone said, "The master formerly exalted the residence of his third-generation ancestor, and now has revived the chamber of his fourth-generation ancestor. Who can say this is the end of the Semblance Dharma?" Prior to this, inside the belly of the monastery's guardian deity, a sheet of vow text had been found that said: "After another hundred years, a flesh-body bodhisattva will revive this place." The master again retired and built a hermitage at Mount Baiyun for four years, yet not a day passed without his lecturing. The prefect again ordered him to reside at Yanqing, and he could not decline. At that time he was sixty years old, which indeed tallied with his previous words.' (Caotang's Jiaoyuan yushi records that Mingzhi resided at Baoyun for eight years.)
