良由眾生根性不一，致使如來巧說不同，且約一代略判五時。

Because the capacities and natures of sentient beings are not uniform, the Tathāgata’s skillful teachings differed accordingly; roughly determining [his teachings of] a single lifetime, they comprise five periods.
