In a quiet and secluded place, one should adorn and prepare a room to serve as the bodhimaṇḍa, setting up a separate seating place for oneself so that there is a partition between it and the bodhimaṇḍa. In the bodhimaṇḍa, arrange a fine high seat and place one copy of the *Lotus Sūtra* upon it; it is not strictly necessary to set up statues, śarīra, or other scriptures—place only the *Lotus Sūtra*, and set out banners, canopies, and various offering utensils. At dawn on the day of entering the bodhimaṇḍa, one should cleanly sweep the floor, sprinkle and wash it with fragrant water, plaster the floor with fragrant mud, light various fragrant oil lamps, scatter various flowers and powdered incense, and burn various renowned incenses to make offerings to the Three Jewels, preparing to the utmost of one's ability, devoting heart and mind to make it extremely adorned and pure. Why is this? The practitioner's inner mind reveres the Three Jewels more than the three realms; now, wishing to reverently invite them and make offerings, how could one do so with a frivolous mind? If one cannot part with one's own wealth to make offerings to the Mahāyāna, one will ultimately be unable to summon the worthy and move the sages, heavy sins will not be extinguished, and how could the samādhi be aroused?
