"With utmost sincerity I repent: I, the bhikṣu [Name], together with all sentient beings of the dharmadhātu, from immeasurable kalpas onward, bound by this nose faculty, have smelled various scents—such as the bodily fragrances of men and women, the aroma of delicate viands, and various other scents—being deluded and failing to understand, stirring up all the fetters so that the dormant thieves of affliction all arose, through which immeasurable sinful karma increased. Because of craving scents, the various consciousnesses made discriminations and were defiled and attached everywhere, falling into birth-and-death and suffering various bitter retributions. The exquisite fragrance of the merits of the Buddhas of the ten directions fills the dharmadhātu, yet because of the obstacles of my turbid and evil nose, I have not smelled it. Now I recite the pure and marvelous scriptures of the Mahāyāna, take refuge in Samantabhadra Bodhisattva and all the World-Honored Ones, burn incense, scatter flowers, and declare the faults and transgressions of the nose, not daring to conceal them. By these causes and conditions, may all the faults and transgressions of the nose faculty of myself and all sentient beings become completely purified." (Having repented, pay homage to the Three Jewels.)
