(When revering the Buddhas, one visualizes: "The one who reveres and the one revered are by nature empty and tranquil; the spiritual resonance of the stimulus and response is inconceivable. This bodhimaṇḍa of mine is like Indra's jewel net; Śākyamuni's reflection appears within it. The reflection of my body appears before Śākyamuni; with head and face touching his feet, I take refuge and bow in reverence." When coming to revering the Buddha of Immeasurable Life, one says: "The reflection of the Buddha of Immeasurable Life appears within it," and so forth. When revering the Dharma, one visualizes: "The true-emptiness Dharma-nature is like empty space; the constantly abiding Dharma Jewel is inconceivable. The reflection of my body appears before the Dharma Jewel; there are none to whom I do not take refuge and bow in reverence." When revering the Sangha, one visualizes following the revering of the Buddha above, only changing to bodhisattvas and so forth. Only when revering Avalokiteśvara does one say: "Seeking the destruction of obstacles, I touch his feet and bow in reverence." As this is the master of repentance, three separate reverences are specifically required, to represent the destruction of the three obstacles and on account of earnest diligence.)
