1.18

若誦此呪能滅五逆十惡一切罪業，能除一切種種病苦、災障惡夢、邪魅鬼神諸不祥事，而能成辦一切勝事，令一切所願皆得圓滿。此呪是諸佛心，若人專心誦一遍能守護自身，一切鬼神天魔不敢侵近，誦兩遍能守護同伴，誦三遍能守一宅中人，誦四遍能守護一城中人，乃至七遍能守護四天下人。（廣如《文殊根本一字呪經》說。上二呪各持一百八遍亦得。）

If one recites this mantra, it can extinguish all transgressive karma of the five heinous acts and the ten unwholesome deeds; it can eliminate all various illnesses and sufferings, calamities and obstacles, bad dreams, evil spirits, ghosts, and all inauspicious matters; and it can bring to accomplishment all supreme endeavors, causing all that is wished for to be fulfilled. This mantra is the mind of the Buddhas. If a person recites it once with a focused mind, it can protect his own person so that all ghosts, spirits, and heavenly demons dare not approach; reciting it twice can protect his companions; reciting it three times can protect the people in a whole house; reciting it four times can protect the people of an entire city; and up to seven times can protect the people of the four continents. (As explained extensively in the Mañjuśrī Fundamental One-Syllable Mantra Sūtra. It is also permissible to recite each of the above two mantras one hundred and eight times.)
