1.71

《藥師七佛功德經》云：「藥師瑠璃光如來得菩提時，由本願力，觀諸有情遇眾病苦，瘦瘧乾痟黃熱等病，或被厭魅蠱道所中，或復短命或時橫死，欲令是等病苦消除、所求願滿，光中演說此陀羅尼。若見男子女人有病苦者，應當一心為彼病人清淨澡漱，或食或藥或無蟲水，呪一百八遍，與彼服食，所有病苦應皆消滅。若有所求，至心念誦皆得如意，無病延年，命終之後生彼世界，得不退轉乃至菩提。」

The Sūtra on the Merits of the Seven Buddhas of Medicine says: "When the Tathāgata Bhaiṣajyaguru Vaiḍūryaprabha attained bodhi, by the power of his fundamental vows, he surveyed sentient beings afflicted by various diseases and sufferings—emaciating ague, consumption, jaundice, fever, and other illnesses—or afflicted by demonic sorcery and venomous witchcraft, or short-lived, or meeting untimely deaths; wishing to cause such diseases and sufferings to be eliminated and their desires to be fulfilled, he expounded this dhāraṇī from within radiance. If one sees a man or woman who is suffering from illness, one should single-mindedly bathe and rinse one's mouth clean for that sick person, and over either food, medicine, or water free of insects, recite the mantra one hundred and eight times and give it to them to ingest; all illnesses and sufferings will be eliminated. If there is anything one seeks, reciting with a sincere mind will cause everything to be obtained as desired, free from illness and with prolonged life; after death, one will be born in that world, attaining non-retrogression up to bodhi."
