I reply: It is only that the Pure Land of dharmatā is open and all-pervading in its principle, its essence being without partiality or limitation; this is the birth of non-birth, which only superior persons are capable of entering. Therefore the Wuzi baoqie jing says: 'Good sons! Furthermore, there is one dharma that is awakened to by the Buddhas, namely that all dharmas neither go nor come, are without cause and without condition, without production and without cessation, without thought and without non-thought, without increase and without decrease. The Buddha told Rāhula: "Do you now uphold the meaning of this true Dharma spoken by me?" At that time, nine hundred million bodhisattvas in the ten directions addressed the Buddha, saying: "All of us can uphold this Dharma gate and will continuously circulate it for sentient beings." The Bhagavat replied: "These good sons will shoulder bodhi on their two shoulders; those persons will immediately attain unceasing eloquence and attain exceedingly pure Buddha-worlds. At the end of their lives, they will immediately see Amitābha Buddha appearing before them with the holy assembly, and they will attain rebirth."' As for those of middling and lower capacities, who have not yet been able to shatter forms, they must rely on the causes and conditions of faith in the Buddha to seek rebirth in the Pure Land; although they reach that realm, they still reside in a land of forms. It is also said: 'If one integrates conditions back to the source, then there are no phenomena outside the mind; if one distinguishes the two truths to clarify the meaning, there is no obstacle to the Pure Land being a phenomenon outside the mind.'
