第二、次明此彼禪觀比挍，勸往生者。但此方穢境，亂想難入，就令修得，唯獲事定，多喜味染。又復，但能伏業，報生上界，壽盡多退。是故《智度論》云：「多聞持戒禪，未得無漏法，雖有此功德，是事未可信。」若欲向西修習，事境光淨，定觀易成，除罪多劫，永定速進，究竟清涼。如《大經》廣說。

Second, next is the comparison between dhyāna-contemplation here and there, exhorting rebirth. The defiled realm of this world is full of chaotic thoughts and difficult to enter; even if one cultivates and achieves it, one obtains only mundane concentration, often indulging in attachment to its taste. Furthermore, it only suppresses karma; receiving retribution in the higher realms, when one's life span ends, one mostly retrogresses. Therefore the *Da zhidu lun* states: 'Extensive learning, upholding precepts, and dhyāna, without having attained undefiled phenomena—though one has these merits, such matters cannot yet be trusted.' If one wishes to turn toward the west and cultivate, the objective realm is radiant and pure, concentration and contemplation are easily accomplished, sins of many kalpas are eliminated, one is forever stabilized and advances swiftly, attaining ultimate coolness. This is extensively explained in the *Larger Sūtra*.
