Question: Whether the pṛthagjanas in that land are humans or devas, what contradiction is there in the meaning? The sūtra text only says there are no three evil destinies; what is to prevent there being human and deva destinies? When the sūtra says they are neither devas nor humans, this speaks of the great bodhisattvas and others as being neither devas nor humans, having the names of humans and devas merely in conformity with other regions, and is not spoken with reference to the pṛthagjanas who attain rebirth. For pṛthagjanas born there to be either in the human destiny or the deva destiny is logically without contradiction.
